<p>The stalled wound can be described as one that is in a non-healing state. This usually occurs at the inflammatory stage of healing and is associated with high levels of proteases in the wound. The tell-tale signs that a wound is stalled in the inflammatory stage include a lack of size reduction and lack of granulating tissue, which is followed by a degeneration of the wound bed colour and increase in exudate, malodour and erythema in the periwound region.</p>
