The impact of using citric acid in treatment of surgical wounds: a case of operated uterine leiomyoma in a severely anaemic and cachexic patient

<p>Infections following surgery, especially in aged and immunosuppressed individuals are difficult to manage. Colonisation of wound with multiple antibiotic resistant pathogens further makes it refractory to treatment. The authors report an operated case of uterine leiomyoma presented as post operative non-healing wound infected with methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus not responding to conventional antibiotic therapy and local wound care.  This post surgical non-healing wound not responding to conventional therapy was simply treated successfully with local application of 3% citric acid gel for 25 days.</p>
