Role of wound cleansing in the management of wounds

<p>Wound cleansing should be seen as an integral part of wound bed preparation to optimise the wound environment by removing debris, reducing bacterial load and preventing biofilm activity. Clinicians have a number of options to choose from when selecting an appropriate wound irrigation solution. Factors to consider include the ability to mount a rapid antimicrobial response to microbial contamination, while avoiding damage to human cells important for wound healing.</p>
