The notion of a dedicated wound care journal for the Middle East was just a dream 11 years ago. At that time, my passion for articles on wound management was triggered by my attendance at an international symposium on wound care that was held in Rome in 2003. During that meeting, Falanga et al introduced the wound bed preparation concept, which has become fundamental in the management of chronic/stagnating wounds. It was at this point I realised that what I had learned and applied during my residency in septic surgery was based on out-dated theories in medical history books, myth, or personal experiences rather than evidence.
