<p>There are many methods of internally fixing destroyed Charcot foot and ankle bones. Screws, plates, intramedullary nails and staples can be used. The use of internal fixation and some forms of external fixation for stabilisation, however, may not be optimal in osteopenic foot bones. There could be loosening of fixa-tion screws over a period of time, especially once the patient is ambulant. Com-plications of external fixation are common, and pin tract infections are frequent. Here, we describe a novel foot and ankle fixation and stabilisation technique in two individuals with deformed Charcot foot and osteoporotic bones after inter-nal fixation. The patients had reconstructive surgery after internal fixation with compression screws in a method called the sling stabilisation technique. Here, FiberWire #2 was used for stabilisation instead of an external fixator, enabling us to stabilise and firmly fix the mid- and hind-foot. We have been using this tech-nique for over 9 years with good results.</p>
