<p>Background: Acticoat is a silver biologic dressing containing a 15 nm bactericidal coat of nanocrystallised ions of silver (SilcrystTM) in a cluster structure. Aim: To compare a nanocrystalline silver dressing (Acticoat®) with a regular silver sulfadiazine dressing (control) in the treatment of pemphigus vulgaris lesions. Methods: An experimental and control dressing were used in each patient (n=16) on symmetrical lesions. Qualitative wound score (QWS) and clinical photography were conducted during treatment for 4 weeks. Final scoring was done by a dermatologist who was blind to the study, the selection process and the dressings used.Results: After 4 weeks, QWS decreased by 1.94 more in the experimental group compared to baseline than in the control group. After 4 weeks, Acticoat showed complete healing in 13 cases in addition to one acceptable healing.Conclusions: Acticoat shortened hospital stay and provided easier handling. It offers an alternative in the treatment of vesiculobullous lesions that may be considered by physicians and patients.  </p>
